Both my mom & grandmom were hooked on this show.
I do remember Elena being replaced by Kathrine more than once. Those scene were always enjoyable even though The CW never showed anything.
It turns out Elena was Kathrine's doppelganger. Kathrine was a Vampire & was couple of hundred years old.
I really don't remember why Elena was created in Kathrine's image.
