A Complete Guide to the Marvel: Earth-USB Saga

Post by tirepanted3 »

Hi all!

The following piece is not a story; rather a roadmap for an existing story. The Marvel: Earth-USB saga, begun by Rufusluciusivan a few years ago and sprawling dozens of chapters across both his and my story pages, has become quite complicated, so I figured it was time for a piece detailing each chapter and story arc, and explaining how best to navigate through them.

Basically, this is the order to read the chapters in order to get the full experience. However, you don't need to read every chapter in order to follow the newest entries in the saga. This will hopefully break the various story arcs down into a manner that makes sense, or at least as much sense as Marvel-related continuity can make without spinning off into the multiverse. ;)

Note: Nearly all these stories were written by Rufus (though I gave some character input). The stories written by me are marked with an asterisk. I will update this page as new chapters are added.

The Kingpin Arc

This first story revolves around Mary Jane and Felicia Hardy (aka the Black Cat), along with Gwen Stacy (Ghost Spider) infiltrating a supervillain meeting arranged by the Kingpin. The main story chapters were written by Rufus, and feature a first-person narration from Mary Jane. I wrote the two "middle" chapters (marked with a .5 in the numbering) that are told from Felicia's perspective.

1. A Screwball
2. A Lady Beetle and a White Rabbit
2.5. The Luck of the Black Cat*
3. They call me U.S.-M.-J.!
3.5. The Woman Behind the Masque*
4. Like Cat and Dog...

The Kraven the Hunter Arc

A shorter storyline, again told alternately from the perspectives of Felicia and MJ. Features the debut of Fiona Kalte.

5. A Cat on the Hunt
6. The Hunter becomes the Hunted
7. Two-Faced Epilogue

Introduction of Taylor's Team

The beginning of the long story arc that has defined much of this saga. Introduces Taylor, Charlotte, and Sarah, who become key antagonists in the series. Also reassembles several characters from earlier chapters. Mostly drops the first-person narration at a certain point, though it crops up from time to time.

8. Here Comes a New Challenger!
9. Here Comes A BUNCH of New Challengers!
10. The True Value of Art
10.5. Cat Burglar Outclassed*
11. Science has no Price Tag
11.5. A Wasp Takes Flight*

Mutant Arc Begins

This series of chapters begins the longest arc of the series, and incorporates most of the characters introduced up to this point. Fairly small-scale set of escapades that pave the way for bigger things to follow.

12. Curiouser and Curiouser
13. Calm Before Storm
14. Cut-throat politics
15. Bitter Aftermath

Orchis Arrives

Things get more heated in this series of chapters, which also incorporate a lot of Marvel heroines into the USB action... unluckily for them.

16. Escalation
17. Something about an Orchid
18. The Debate*
19. A Gala to Remember
20. This Means War!

Chronicles of Earth-USB (Prequels)

A trio of prequel stories detailing the backstory of the three antagonists of the Mutant arc.

Taylor
Charlotte
Sarah

One Final Aria

As the title indicates, this is the final arc of the mutant saga. Kind of a "season finale" arc.

21. Overture
22. Crescendo
23. Apotheosis
24. Encore

Chronicles of Earth-USB: Widows' Bite
* - A standalone chapter that introduces Natasha Romanoff (aka the Black Widow).

Circus Tricks

A brief arc that serves as a transition point between the Gwen/MJ arc of the earlier chapters and the Natasha/Yelena arc to come.

25. Act One
26. Act Two
27. Act Three

The Black Widow(s) Arc

The latest story arc, focusing on the aforementioned Natasha and Yelena, along with a few other characters both old and new. Currently in process.

28. A New Kind of Spider*
29. Stark Attack*
30. AIM of the Game*
31. Fangs of the HYDRA*
32. Grappler Girls*

Wow. I appreciate the work. Very clear and efficient. Gotta love the idea of a master post to give the chronology and summary of the saga. I never thought this series would reach such scope when I began the first story – originally, it was supposed to be a one-shot with only Mary-Jane and Screwball! And now it’s a saga with several Arcs…

Keeping track and copy-pasting many links isn’t the same work as writing a story, but it’s still a tiresome, boring, and thankless job, so thank you for taking the time to do it.

Could you copy-past and upload this post on my own section as well? I believe it would be useful there too. ;)

(I admit I chuckled when the Kraven Arc mentions it features the debut of Fiona Kalte as if she’s some key player in the story, when she’s actually an occasional cameo and Felicia’s designated victim… Now, I will be disappointed if she doesn’t make a cameo at some point in the new arc! I’m sure Felicia would appreciate a new duffle coat... I also now feel compelled to mention that while her character and backstory are my inventions, her design draws inspiration from a real character from the manga Spy X Family named Fiona Frost:

This saga has come quite a long way... and all because Screwball's costume would make for a good disguise! So much from a simple germ of an idea...

Glad you found this piece helpful; it did take some time to put all this together, so hopefully it's worth it for others as well. Having multiple chapters and arcs split across your story page and mean necessitated some form of "story map," especially since this saga now encompasses forty chapters (including the side-stories) and counting...

I copied the post into your own section; I'll try to update one as I do the other. Of course you are also free to update it should you add more chapters of your own.

I mentioned Fiona Kalte because these chapter and arc descriptions were originally going to be more detailed, but I got a little tired after writing up the first few arcs and mostly stuck to brief capsule summaries after that. Regardless, happy to give poor Fiona a shout-out. And who knows? She seems like the type of unlucky woman who could pop up again...

The pic you linked appears not to work, so I Googled Fiona Frost. I don't typically love anime designs, but I can see where you drew inspiration.
