Really does feel like the end of an era.

20th August 2024, GAME UK have officially ended their Reward program that existed as far back as I can remember when the store first hit the streets. This comes only months after they cease the trade in of used games and consoles, meaning you can no longer do physical trade ins. Which I think puts the final nail in the coffin of owning physical games in the UK.

Even though I switched to digital gaming years ago...I still always bought my digital PSN and Xbox Live gift cards through GAME online to then redeem the money on my gaming accounts (never trusted Microsoft or Sony with my actual bank card details). Saved tons of money with their reward program.

Now sadly there is no longer any benefit at all in shopping at this retailer. Won't be long before the whole company ceases trading altogether.

All consoles I purchased in the past, except my current Series X, was bought from GAME. Remember the midnight opening for the Dreamcast 25 years ago. Did I get wasted that night! Good times.

Here in the US, we had stores very similar to that called Game Stop and Movie Stop.
As far as I know, they both went out of busses over the last decade.
Back in the early to mid 90's my buddy and I used to shop at Suncoast Video in the Franklin Mills Mall.
This was in the era of VHS tapes. They had a $9.99 section, filled with a pretty decent selection of "B" movies.
I remember buying a copy of "Gamera VS. Zigra" from that section. I bought many Slasher and Godzilla movies there too.
With the exception of Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Target, FYE and Five Below, there really isn't anywhere to buy movies or video games in Philadelphia.
In fact most, the mall I mentioned, Franklin Mills, is rumored to be going out of busses.
I'm not much of a gamer, however, I used to own an Atari, Super Nintendo and the first Play Station.
I used to enjoy playing video games, but really sucked at them. For instance, I never, ever was able to beat Super Mario Brothers on Super Nintendo.
My buddy gave me a Play Station 1 as birthday present back in 1999. I couldn't finish Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, So I gave the Play Station back to my buddy.

I think GameStop is still going in the US, but I have seen countless stories on it having problems over the years, mass layoffs, forced resignations and store closures etc.
I loved the VHS era. Used to go to Blockbuster Video and look at the back of movie cases that I was too young to watch, things like the Amityville Horror films.
Wasn't until summer 1999 that I was able to become a Blockbuster member and start renting movies. Rented a lot of 90s erotic thrillers also!
