Cambridge Ruins Infiltration:- A Fallout 4 USB Story

Post by Stormtrooper1990 »

This little one shot came about in a conservation I had with Blue Cynthia on the Uniform Stealing Discord. It centers around one of my favourite video games, Fallout 4, developed by the makers of the Elder Scrolls. The theft of enemy clothes is of course one of the central gameplay aspects, but I have always wanted to write a uniform stealing for the game. Here one of my Original Characters from the game, Peyton Redfield, is an agent for the Railroad an organisation dedicated to freeing Institute Synths and helping them escape the Commonwealth wasteland. Her assignment here is too infiltrate the former Cambridge Police Station, an outpost of the Brotherhood of Steel, and find the location of captured Synths being held by the Brotherhood. But first she needs to find a suitable disguise from a member of the Brotherhood, and it just so happens there is a research patrol scouring the ruins of Cambridge....

Peyton Redfield, glanced through her scavenged field glasses as she scanned the latest Brotherhood Research patrol to emerge from the ruins of the former Cambridge Police Station, remaining hidden from the Brotherhood patrol in her hid in a ruined Slocum Joe's Donut Shop. Taking a deep breath she reviewed the path that had led her here. It had been 3 long months since Peyton had been thawed out of vault 111, near her former home of Sanctuary Hills of what used to be the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Of course it still seemed like yesterday that she was running with Nate and Shaun towards the apparent safety of Vault 111, as the nuclear bombs started to fall on October 23rd 2077, an event that became known as the Great War. That was the day her entire world fell apart. How could they have known that the safety that Vault-Tec promised was nothing but a cruel trick. As soon as they, and the other residents of Sanctuary Hills, had entered the Vault and zipped up their blue jumpsuits they were all herded like cattle into cryogenic pods. Peyton had to watch her husband Nate, the love of her life and their infant son Shaun freeze before her eyes before she too was frozen, but that wasn't the worst of it.

Many years later she watched helpless as men from the institute led by that mercenary bastard Kellogg, had murdered her husband the soldier and abducted Shaun. The memory of pounding on the glass, as Kellogg shot Nate through the head taking Shaun from his dead arms, still caused great rage and sadness to seep into her heart. She remembered the smirk he gave her as he referred to her as "The spare." Peyton shook the bad memories from her mind, at least the son-of-a- bitch was dead and she had killed him herself. Since her escape of Vault 111, her life had been a crazy rollercoaster of strange shit, moving from one fucked up situation to the next. If anyone had told her that she would be stealing the clothes from dead women, some of them she had killed herself, just to survive then she would have laughed in their face but that been her day-to-day since day one of emerging into the commonwealth Wasteland. She had even picked up a reputation, with Travis on the radio referring to her as the Sole Survivor. In her search to find her son and get revenge on the Institute. It was to this end, that she had joined up with the Railroad the enemies of the Institute and the tech hoarding quasi military force The Brotherhood of Steel. Peyton couldn't give a shit about freeing Synths, she needed the Railroads help in getting into the institute to find Shaun, but first she needed to do a few things for them. Her mission was to infiltrate the former Cambridge Police Station, home of Recon Team Gladius and steal information pertaining to the location of captured Synths held by tne Brotherhood.

Peyton caught her reflection in a broken window, she didn't look half bad for a 232 year old. She had high cheekbones, rounded features and narrow blue eyes. Her head crowned with a mop of unruly raven coloured hair cut into a pixie cut. She was currently dressed in her Marine Wetsuit, a little souvenir from Far Harbour, over which she wore shadowed study combat armour and sunglasses. On her left wrist, she wore her pip-boy 3000 currently set on low volume listening to Travis Miles Diamond City Radio. Finishing her self appraisal, Peyton got back on mission. For the mission to succeed, she needed to steal the uniform from a Brotherhood scribe. Peyton had already singled out a suitable candidate, a young pretty scribe who was currently part of the latest Brotherhood Research Patrol, which consisted of two scribes and a Brotherhood Knight in T-60a power armour. She would need to get the woman alone, kill her and take her clothes. Even then, she would need to avoid any paladin in power armour plus those that would recognise her. That included Paladin Danse, Scribe Haylen and Knight Rhys. Peyton tried not to think about the time she had saved their lives, from a pack of feral ghouls, hopefully she would not run into them. As the Patrol dispersed, Peyton could see the young scribe walk towards the ruins of the Campus diner. Smiling, Peyton got onto street level and quietly stalked the young woman towards the diner ruins, switching off her Pip Boy

Brotherhood Scribe Veronica Forster, of the Order of the Quill stood open mouthed as she gazed around the ruins of the former town of Cambridge Massachusetts, trying to picture what this place must have been like in its heyday before the Great War. Whenever the opportunity for research expeditions came by, Veronica was always the first to jump. She had been told on numerous occasions by Paladin Danse, that the ruins were no holiday camp that if she was going to go solo on relic hunts that she went armed. Veronica was fairly confident, that between her AER-9 laser pistol and her Brotherhood training she could deal with ferals, raiders or anyone else who thought to mess with a Brotherhood Scribe. At 24, Veronica had been a fully fledged scribe for two years now. Never cut out to be a knight, Veronica preferred combing through ruins and studying the past then firing a laser rifle let the Knights have their fun she thought, it's we scribes that are the real backbone of the order. She was dressed in the standard uniform of the field scribe with consisted of a red jumper with matching black trousers, gloves and combat boots. Over her jumper she wore a brown chest harness, festooned with numerous pockets ideal for storing numerous samples. Over her shoulder length light brown hair, Veronica wore a goggled field cap with a leather coif. As she opened the door to the ruins of a diner, Veronica caught a glimpse of her reflection in the glass. She was a looker with shallow cheekbones heart shaped features and almond shaped hazel eyes. Smiling as she checked herself out, Veronica opened the door of the diner and walked inside unaware that she was being stalked.

Veronica's eyes lit up as she saw a jukebox next to the long red counter, along the far wall. These pre-war music boxes, were among Veronica's favourite artifacts from the period, not only were they aesthetically present they played some great tunes. Smiling despite herself, Veronica walked up to the jukebox selecting the song "It's All Over But the Crying" by the prewar band The Inkspots. Leaning over the music box, Veronica stared to whistle to the track, unaware of the danger behind her. Suddenly Veronica was grabbed from behind by a chokehold a hand clamped over her mouth. Veronica didn't have time to struggle as she felt her head being wrenched hard to the right, the last thing she heard was her neck breaking with a sickening crack as she slumped into the arms of her attacker.

Peyton switched off the Jukebox, as she lowered the dead scribe to the floor of the ruined diner. She sighed as she saw the young beautiful face that stared up at her, she was much too young but Peyton had no other choice. " I'am sorry sweetie. I have no beef with you or the Brotherhood but the railroad will help me find my son. And I would do anything to save my son." Peyton said to the dead woman as she stripped off her Pip Boy and armour. Now wearing only her black underwear, Peyton started to strip the dead scribe. After closing the dead girl's eyes, Peyton stripped off her hat, coif, boots, gloves and vest harness. She leaned the dead girl against her body, holding up her arms Peyton pulled off the scribes jumper revealing a pair of C-cup breasts enveloped by a white t-shirt bra that emphasised her chest. After letting the half naked corspe fall back to the ground Peyton unfastened the scribes trousers working them off her hips, peeling them down her long divine legs and off her body. Has Peyton got dressed in her stolen scribes uniform, she regarded the former scribe, clad only in her white t-shirt bra, matching white scanty thong panties and Brotherhood holotag, she was a pretty little thing with a slim attractive body with hardly any muscle definition given her station. Peyton had experimented in college with other women, long before she had met Nate but had buried those feelings when she got married and started a family. Living in the wasteland as long as she had been, had reawakened those desire. Shaking thoughts of the past from her mind, Peyton finished getting dressed in her stolen uniform then dragged the scantily clad corpse behind the diner counter. As an after thought Peyton looped the scribes holotag over her head." Scribe Veronica Forster, Order of the Quill." She aloud from the tag as she looped it over her head. The woman's identity should come in handy, should she need to bluff her way out. After depositing her armour, weapons and pip-boy next to the half naked body, Peyton exited the ruins of the campus diner, holstering her stolen laser pistol.

Snapping the goggles over her eyes, and glancing up into the air seeing the unmistakable bulk of the Brotherhood airship the Prydwen looming over the commonwealth to the south, Peyton made her way towards the ruins of Cambridge Police Station nervously passing feral ghoul packs as she neared the station. When she arrived, she found a Brotherhood Knight in power armour towering over another scribe. "There you are. Here we were wondering if some pack of ferals had got you. Did you find anything shiny out in the ruins?" The woman said, the sarcasm in her voice apparent despite her helmet communicator. Peyton shook her head. " Not on this run Knight. Looks like scavvies had already cleaned the place out." The knight let on a tinny sigh. " Damn locals. Prodding around with tech they barely understand. Nevermind about that though you look like you could do with a cup of coffee, head on inside. Ad Victorium! Sister." The knight flashed a quick salute across her chest, the servos in her armour clanking in response. " Ad Victorium! Sister." Peyton returned the Brotherhood salute, before walking past them into the outpost of Recon Squad Gladius.

As she walked into the station, still as cramped and dusty as she remembered, Peyton could hear "The Wanderer" by Dion being played over a distant radio. To her right was the unmistakable profiles of Scribe Haylen and Knight Rhys, still the asshole he always was. But fortunately there seemed to be no sign of Paladin Danse, the Squads leader. Peyton could remember assisting the man in clearing Cambridge Polymer Labs, she had turned down his offer of joining the Brotherhood, for a brief moment she wondered were she would be right now had she accepted. Brushing away thoughts of the past, Peyton kept her head down using her disguise making sure she didn't make eye contact with either Haylen or Rhys making her way past the reception desk, through the south door. Peyton knew from her earlier visits to the station, the Police Chiefs office just off to the right of the main office area, would have a terminal with the information she needed for Desdemona and the Railroad. She quickly made her way into the Chiefs office, sweeping the room to check she was alone. Satisfied that there wasn't any witnesses around, Peyton switched on the terminal running a quick hack to break through the security. When she was finished, Peyton found what she was looking for, a file called "Synth acquisitions" she clicked on it and smiled. It was all here, at least 5 were being held at the former BADTFL regional office in Charlestown. Wasting no time, Peyton quickly download the file onto a holotape taking it out of tne terminal and putting into one of the myriad pockets in her stolen uniform. After switching off the terminal, Peyton exited the room closing the door behind her. As she walked down the corridor towards the motor pool exited, Peyton suddenly caught site of Paladin Danse thundering down the corridor in his power armour, she recognised that chisel jawed stubbled face. Acting quickly, Peyton ducked into the evidence room on her right using her disguise to imitate a scribe checking artifacts. As soon as she heard the booming footsteps of Danse recede into the Police Chiefs Office, Peyton quickly made her way to the down stairs motorpool exiting the station.

It didn't take Peyton long to retrace her steps through the ruins of Cambridge, towards the ruins of the Campus diner. Once she was inside, Peyton stripped off the stolen scribe uniform discarding it next to its scantily clad former owner and quickly redressed in her armour. After retrieving the holotap from her disguise, she placed in her Pip Boy for safe keeping until she got back to the Church. Peyton spared the corpse of Veronica one last look. " I' am sorry our paths crossed Veronica. But you helped me get one step closer to my son." Peyton gently caressed the dead girl's cheek then exited the diner. Leaving her underwear clad body behind.

Peyton shouldered her weapons as she switched on her Pip Boy to Diamond City Radio, catching the tune "I Don't Want To Set the World on Fire." By the Inkspots. Singing softly along, Peyton turned South-East towards Boston, making her way out of the ruins of Cambridge. A smile formed across her face as the Sole Survivor wandered down the lonely road, safe in the knowledge that she was one step closer to Shaun, one step closer to revenge for Nate.

Very creative story.

An idea
Bring a female companion (who doesn't like BOS), double kill, double disguise.
Another idea
Special way to hide a corpse: hide the corpse in power armor.
when a power armor frame is installed at the Power armor station

Thank you, my friend.

You can have a companion follow you around, so a double infiltration can certainly be done. And I really like the suggestion of using a power armour suit, to hide a body inside. Very creative means of body disposal.

The BoS and the Institute are great sources of Inspiration for potential uniform stealing stories. If you look at Fallout New Vegas then there are even more potential scenarios; the NCR, BoS, Strippers, prostitutes, the White Glove Society.

Video games like Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Desperados 3, Shadow Tactics and so many others are a potential source of almost limitless inspiration for Uniform Stealing stories. It is a resource that could and should be tapped.

Thanks for illustrating the story, esercito I really appreciate it :D

Coincidentally, the picture of the Sole Survivor looks almost like my OC.

I have two more characters, one is Blonde and BoS the other is the auburn haired leader of the minutemen.

I was thinking of writing a USB scene involving the Institute, with another of my OC's. Maybe where she as to rescue Piper, who has been replaced by an Institute synth...

"New Vegas" is a good game,( except that it has a lot of bugs).

The protagonist can travel with two companions, one humanoid and one non-humanoid

Faction armor can be used as a disguise to fool hostile factions into not attacking. This can also work the opposite way, causing faction members to attack.

The clothing of "New Vegas" and "fallout 3" looks better than "fallout 4",

Most of the clothing in "Fallout 4" is ugly, except for Vault Jumpsuit and BOS uniform.

Yeah, New Vegas was great game but it was really buggy, did you ever get a blank screen whenever you loaded a save in the Ultraluxe, that was the worst.

I did like the disguise gameplay, although it should have been better implemented.

I agree with you that the armour in Fallout 3 and Vegas, was much better then in 4. I'am thinking of the raider outfits, the enclave officer uniform and the Chinese Stealth Suit, it looked really good on a woman.

On Fallout 4, I liked the classic vault suit, the Bos Uniform( both the green and orange variety) the marine wetsuit and the clothing worn by the institute.

The Institute itself is a great potential faction to run USB scenarios on.

Not so sure ....I definitely prefer how the females are dressed at my Fallout 4 settlement!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veCelFM6P28

In terms of actual gameplay and structure ....New Vegas is my favourite.

Lol I can see why

They are some fine looking ladies, did you steal their clothes, perchance Void

How did you get your settlement so expansive, my settlements are shit and drab by comparison.

I have to agree with with on New Vegas, the gameplay and story was really compelling. Then the DLC was just superb. Its just to bad the game was buggier then an Ant Colony. They rushed the development, had they taken their time Obsidian could have made a great game a classic. Alas they didn't, which is a pity.

This simple answer is extreme time investment and grind! Gathering resources etc.
I must have spent well over 7000 hours across both PS4 and Xbox Series X with Fallout 4.

One of my favourite settlements was this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9LxQJzUnSg
Not really a settlement as such....but my own personal war zone! At the flip of a switch ....out come 23 gunners, 12 raiders, 8 Deathclaws and 5 Yao Guai. Survive the ensuing carnage and a big looting spree will net a TON of caps to be earned from selling the loot!!!

I really really hope Starfield allows us to get creative on planets with breathable atmospheres. We know there is settlement building.

New Vegas did need more time in the oven. The worst bug on Xbox 360 was the infamous "DLC save corruption" bug that happened for the first few months after release. For me, entering Vault 3 triggered this.
Tells you the save file relies on DLC that is no longer available, even though no DLC had been released at that point! Frustrating beyond belief.
