Alters - Chapter 15 (p.3 of 12)

Behind a tree in the direction Logan had been looking, a heart was beating at an incredible pace. A blond head poked out, showing she was out of breath, but excited at the same time.

Oh God I could just do it right now.

Jean peeked again and could see the top of two heads behind several bushes. Her body leaned forward slightly and she had to stop herself from charging out of her hiding spot.

No I want to separate them first, then I strike.

She backed up slowly and snuck her way to the street that lay twenty feet in front of her. A woman about the same size as Jean stumbled across the street to the sidewalk nearest the forest. The brunette was alone and clearly inebriated. Jean took advantage of the situation and crawled into a bush that the woman would soon pass. When the clicking of the lady's heeled shoes became louder and then visible, Jean struck. She popped out of the bush and pulled the young woman in with her.

Jean wrapped her arms around the woman's head and neck, tightening her grip as the seconds went by. She quickly shifted her weight and twisted her two limbs, fracturing the young lady's neck. The satisfying crunch of broken vertebrae sent a shiver all over Jean's body. The woman quickly went limp and Jean dragged her deeper into the forest.

"Was that as good for you as it was for me?" Jean whispered into the ear of the woman's corpse. "I didn't think so."

She removed the woman's clothes, replacing them with her own. After Jean had disguised herself in jeans and a black tank top, she re-dressed the woman in her dirty nurse's uniform.

"Okay now back to business." Jean walked out onto the street and looked around until she identified the place she had been searching for, a police station.

Other than the fact the building had POLICE painted in white letters above the doors, it was an exceptionally dull establishment. It looked more like a prison because of the cinderblock walls that remained grey, with no visible effort to change that. The fences that housed the station's parking lot were topped with barbed wire, further supporting the prison-style look.

The sight of the police station made Jean grimace; she knew this place would be her new temporary home, if she were to be caught. Jean took notice of the barbed wire fence closest to her and she ran towards it.

"Huh, it's not that high." She said quietly to herself. "No one's around, perfect; just made this a whole lot easier."

Jean scaled the fence with efficiency, scurrying to the top in a matter of mere seconds. Without any hesitation whatsoever, she plunged her arm into the bushel of razor-tipped wires. Instead of unbearable pain, Jean felt only ecstasy. The pleasure of drawing blood, even if it was her own, was always such a satisfying experience for her. Jean slowly removed her arm and was pleased with the damage she had self-inflicted. After letting go of the fence and landing with a thud, silenced by the snow, Jean walked with a zombie-like limp, until she reached the station doors.
