The Mimic gun was born out of a need to decrease the level of agent fatalities, during the 2010's. Special Operation Group had put in a request for a device that would increase the success rate of SOG operations. To not only steal the clothing of a subject but also her facial appearance, voice, and physical attributes, in order to fool modern biometrics, albeit temporarily. Thus the Mimic gun was born, the crowning achievement of Project Masquerade, and was rolled out to operatives in the spring of 2022. The feedback as proven highly successful, with the Mimic gun providing the edge in the successful operations against the Consortium and Darkwatch.

Operatives had reported that the effects of the gun last longer when the subject is unconscious, rather then deceased up to a factor of 100%. Further vindication of the SI's choice to remain non-lethal. A MK2 version is in the works, to eliminate the intense physical pain felt by operatives when using the gun, although long term users report they become sensitised and no longer feel any pain during the "shifting" process.

The mimic gun is currently in active service with SI Special Operation Groups, and can be made available upon request to Special Infiltration Regiments.

My least favorite tool honestly since it makes infiltration effortless. I'm not a fan of target mimicking.

But it's fun, assuming the appearance of someone else for a little while.

I do understand Blue-Cynthia's comment that is takes out a look of the risk and effort of the infiltration. I however still find the mimic gun intriguing.

The idea of an intruder knocking a woman out and then taking a little bit of her blood and becoming her is a great concept.

I like too that the effect lasts longer is the blood donor is alive.

It makes sense, since blood coagulates after death, it won't be in the agents bloodstream for long. Which explains why it didn't last long when Vesper killed the Bunny girl nor Miranda's lawyer.

Stormtrooper, I was looking back over your old posts about the SI equipment and it got me thinking about the mimic gun. The mimic gun it quite interesting because it actually takes uniform stealing one step beyond. You basically steal the woman's entire existence for awhile.

We of course know thanks to the powerful effects of the tools used by SI the woman will be completely out of commission for a long time. By using the mimic gun the SI agent takes the woman's face and body shape in addition to her uniform. The SI agent really becomes the woman she has taken out.
Until the mimic gun's effect wears off, she has basically taken the woman's entire existence.

Hi Meditions

I remember when I first came up with the mimic gun concept, I wanted something that represented my shared love for uniform stealing and identity theft, through shape-shifting. And thus the mimic gun was born. Essentially, when the SI Agent takes out a woman and uses the gun to become her, they are borrowing that person's existence( or stealing it if used on a dead subject.). This alone raises several ethical and moral dilemmas that would be worthy of debate, on any other forum but not ours ;) .

I know that the Mimic Gun itself, is a polarising feature. I have had comments from those that say, it makes the agents too overpowered. In my opinion, the Mimic Gun is the SI just as much as the Shock Glove or the Shock Pistol, and the other gadgets as well. It wouldn't be the SI without the Mimic Gun.

Thank you, my friend for your continued support I very much appreciate it. :)

Indeed, the moral and ethical issues are there. Especially given SI are the good guys. However, look what they are doing. There targets (even the Darkwatch sentries) are basically innocent young woman. While they don't kill them, they do nonetheless render them deeply unconscious for long periods, leave them naked and steal their appearances.

Of course we know from Miranda's writing in the handbook that the operative are trained think of the woman they need to take out as objects and tools. As Miranda says "it's no good if you have doubts or feelings of empathy towards the target. You must act with a certain detachment, treat them as a means to end". This lets them avoid the moral issues.
