Taking her place

The denim mini had come from the same store; the boots were not quite the same style, but they'd pass in the crowded convention hall. The stranger intended to take her place. That much was evident.

Why was the other woman taking her place? That was a mystery. Right now, she would settle for getting loose from the ropes. That didn't seem likely either.
