A Fetish or a Trope?

Morning All

When I was replying to my good friend meditions review of my latest work Flight from the Fortis Inquisitorus, A Star Wars USB Tale, I had a moment of reflection deciding to call USB a trope and not a fetish. It then hit me; how do we define USB?

Is it a Trope or a Fetish?

You may all know me from my stories and my sometimes radical opinions that have gotten me into trouble in the past. But I wanted to share with you my own personal opinions about what USB means to me.

There is nothing more badass or sexy than a woman stealing the clothes/uniform of another to disguise herself, whether she uses fair means or foul, that we can all agree on. In my eyes lethal or non-lethal have no meaning to me, I like it all.

What I absolutely cannot abide are those that refer to it as a fetish. Fetish is a dirty, ugly word that implies something is a taboo and should be best practiced in private. USB isn't a fetish, it's a time honoured trope and should be respected as such.

A fetish is something like bondage and it shouldn't be lumped into USB like an arranged marriage. I have watched scenes on mainstream and read stories without any bondage in them, and they often make the better more enjoyable scenes.

Well, that's my two pennies. I shall step down off my shoebox and let someone else share their opinions on USB. After all, I would be very interested to see what everyone else thinks.

Very intriguing question you raise here Stormtrooper. I definitely understand your thoughts.

I actually think that perhaps the better way to approach it is first determine if indeed it is a "fetish" does that mean it is bad. You are definitely correct that many people define "fetish" as you describe it "a dirty, ugly word that implies something is a taboo and should be best practiced in private."

However, looking online the general concept is that fetishes (except in extreme cases where they have negative impacts on your overall life or you act out on an non-consenting person or someone who is not an adult) are not bad at all. The AI definition I found says this "Having a fetish is not inherently bad. Fetishes are simply intense sexual interests or desires that focus on specific objects, situations, or body parts."

So maybe the better way to look at it is look at a fetish as something that is not really bad. Sure, some people might not understand it or think it is weird. However, in the end it is, as the definition says "not inherently bad".

So it you look to the accepted meaning of fetish Uniform Stealing is both a trope and a fetish. And maybe that is not a bad thing.

I must say my friend, you make a very convincing argument. I honestly never considered that you could easily define USB as combining both elements of a trope and a fetish. I'm not going to lie and say I don't get aroused at the thought of a woman losing her clothes to another, because I do without any shadow of a doubt. And going off the AI description of a fetish you provided, it quite clearly is my fetish; a situation that I derive sexual pleasure from. The important phrase being 'not inherently bad' of course.

Thanks for your thoughts, you are right when you say USB being both a trope and a fetish and it not necessarily being a bad thing. It's who we are and I'm proud of that. No matter what anyone from the outside looking in feels, since they will never understand what USB is all about.

I don't find the word "fetish" in itself necessarily dirty.
It just means a specific and direct liking of a particular thing.

It is often associated with sexual content or sexual thoughts. Whether those thoughts are dirty is always going to be down to individual perspective or opinion.

The term "pornography" means imagery/content intended to arouse sexual desire.
You could easily lump uniform stealing content in with this if that is indeed the primary intention. Or anything that is not even explicit but is intended to cause arousal.

It's all down to personal opinion. Some are just offended by anything...no matter how trivial.

You are sadly correct, in this day and age many people just work to hard at being offended even over the most smallest of things.

Personally, I don't view USB as pornographic unless that is as you rightly put their attention. Like Meditions says, it's best defined as both a mixture of fetish and trope. But I'am not offended if USB is used in a pornographic manner.
