Memorable day
It was a chilly autumn morning when 18-year-old Lena set off for school. She was wearing her favorite jeans and a pink sweater that her grandmother had given her for her birthday. In her backpack, along with her books, were her phone and a wallet with a small amount of money. She was walking calmly, listening to music through her headphones, when suddenly she felt someone grab her arm and yank her toward a nearby forest.
"Don't scream if you want to live," she heard the hoarse voice of a woman who looked much older than her. The woman was wearing dirty, torn clothes and held a knife in her hand. Lena froze in terror.
What… what do you want?" she whispered, her heart pounding like a hammer.
"Clothes. Give me your clothes," the woman ordered, her eyes wild. Lena realized this was the escape prisoner. She had seen her face on the news a few days earlier. The woman was wanted for robbery and had broken out of custody.
"Please… don't hurt me," Lena begged, but the woman wasn’t listening.
"Quick! Take everything off!" she snarled, pressing the knife closer.
With trembling hands, Lena began to take off her sweater, then her jeans. The woman watched her closely, keeping the knife ready. When Lena was down to her underwear, the prisoner ordered her to remove her shoes and socks.
"Now you put these on," the woman said, pointing to her own dirty, smelly clothes. Lena felt nauseous but had no choice. She knew she had to obey if she wanted to get out of this alive.
As Lena pulled on the torn shirt and pants, which were several sizes too big, the woman quickly put on her pink sweater and jeans. She looked grotesque, but she didn’t seem to care.
Phone and wallet. Hand them over," the woman demanded, extending her hand. Lena silently handed over her belongings.
"If you tell anyone you saw me, I’ll find you," the prisoner warned before disappearing into the thick forest.
Lena stood for a moment, shivering from cold and fear. When she regained her composure, she headed toward the nearest house to ask for help. Her thoughts were chaotic, but one thing was certain—this day had changed her life forever.
Meanwhile, the escaped prisoner, now disguised as Lena, headed toward the city. She knew she had to hurry to throw off the pursuit. But deep down, she felt her time was running out. Soon, she would learn that fate can be cruel, and punishment for her actions was closer than she expected.

Part 2
A cold wind whipped the face of the woman now striding through the city streets in Lena’s pink sweater and tight jeans. To every passerby, she appeared to be just another teenager, but her sweaty hands clutched the knife hidden in her pocket. A police officer’s uniform—this was her only chance for a safe escape.
She spotted one on an empty parking lot near the police station. A young officer, likely in her twenties, leaned against a patrol car, sipping coffee from a paper cup. Her light-blonde hair was tied into a bun under her cap, and the reflective stripes on her uniform glinted faintly in the weak sunlight.
„Officer… Help…” the escapee whimpered, feigning terror as she approached. She forced out shaky breaths, pretending to cry. „Someone’s chasing me…”
The officer immediately set down the cup and reached for her radio. „Where? Describe them!”
„Over there… behind the dumpsters…” the woman replied, pointing a trembling finger. As the officer turned her head, the fugitive pulled out the knife.
But the young woman in uniform was faster. She dodged swiftly, grabbing the attacker’s wrist and kneeing her in the stomach. The knife clattered to the asphalt.
„Did you think we don’t check police alerts about escapees?“ the officer growled, pinning the woman to the ground.
Sirens wailed in the distance. Two more officers rushed out of the station, cuffing the woman’s hands behind her back. Her wild eyes met the officer’s cold stare as the latter lifted the pink sleeve of Lena’s sweater, revealing a tracking bracelet tucked beneath it.
„Thanks for making it easy,” the officer muttered to her colleagues before turning to the seething fugitive:
„Your victim was smarter. She called the police before even reaching that house for help.”
Lena sat wrapped in a police blanket, watching from the back of the patrol car as they led the hunched-over woman away in her clothes.
„Thank you,”Lena whispered as the officer handed her a cup of hot chocolate.
„You’re the brave one here,” the officer replied, nodding toward the fugitive being shoved into an ambulance.
Lena managed a faint smile. She knew the nightmare was over. As for that pink sweater? It burned in the police incinerator as evidence. The new navy-blue one given to her by the rescue team was warmer. And it carried no memory of the morning that taught her even the deepest fear could reveal hidden courage.

The end
