Opposition leader Liz Jordan had been imprisoned on Ulcatraz Island Penitentiary on false charges by the repressive government who were eager to silence her. But Liz escaped by swimming naked across the bay.
On reaching the shore, Liz found it awash with police searching for her. Hiding in a construction site, she found a baseball bat the workers used for lunchtime practice, and Liz set out to get clothes, a car and something valuable she could sell to fund her life in exile abroad.

Sophie: "...so our machines create five clones of each original, and I'll then auction them off gradually over three months, and on different continents, so we don't flood the market. We then hypnotize the originals to believe they were kidnapped by aliens, and drop them naked in a supermarket carpark in Oakland. That ends the missing persons enquiry on them, and everyone will think they had breakdowns, so they won't be believed if they ever do remember what actually happened."
Liz: "Ingenious! And the clones are exactly the same as the originals?"
Sophie: "Almost. The cloning machine ramps up their sex drive and halves their IQ, so they settle happily into a life of being a sex toy."
Liz: "Sounds perfect."
Sophie: "Okay, I'll take you to sign the auction papers, then one of my security operatives will drive you to an unguarded spot on the border where you slip out of the country. I'll wire you the money."
