Most likely single missions, like Irina infiltrates a hospital or Diana or Nancy infiltrates a restaurant.
Or a military base, to steal secrets and take pictures.
Not many frontline female police officers in the 80s, TV shows like TJ and Hooker, Cagney and Lacey were mostly fantasy. Many female officers were given uniforms and guns, to keep them quiet, but never any series case work.
It wasn't until the 1990's when this changed, but even now women face an uphill struggle.

They take pictures and steal information, disguised as female US Officers and soldiers, their faces hidden by ski masks.
From there, return to a heroes welcome in Moscow.
