I found this interesting article on the origins of the neck pinch, I thought you might like it.

It seems like us the late great Leonard Nimoy is a kindred spirit and says that the neck pinch is an elegant technique. And he didn't want Spock to have something so crass or crude like a gun or to punch someone. Hence, he came up with the idea of the Vulcan Nerve Pinch and the producers agreed.
So we can accurately call, Mr Leonard Nimoy as the grandpa of nerve pinches. Without him we wouldn't have them.
