What you actually saw was not rocks falling from the sky, but satellites knocked out of orbit by swamp gas from the planet Venus.

Have you played the game “stellaris”?
I think the alien race shape in the game can give us inspiration.

If the "pursuer" and "escaped criminal " are "bad aliens" like "Predator" and "alien" who will kill human at will, then the "pursuer" can be designed as non-Humanoid too, such as Molluscoid.

“The octopus will use its sharp teeth to pry open the shell, and then stick out its tongue to take away the meat of the shell.”

This can be replaced by "human skull and brain".

I haven't played that game. But it looks interesting.

In this story, the pursuer is an alien cop(good alien)she doesn't kill anyone, but knocks out to acquire disguise. She belongs to the mono gendered Gaian race, so humanoid.

S'thena is the bad alien who kills for sport, and to acquire new disguises. She belongs to the warlike K' sar race, an insectoid race whose females are warriors and shape shifters. They can kill the females of any species and steal their identity and clothes. Through brain sucking.via the tongue.

We could come up with another alien shifter, possibly gas or liquid based or like you said octopus. But make the manner of his it acquires DNA less graphic.

Or like Iona, give the woman a kiss. We can flip to using natural toxins for lethality, so it takes DNA and poisons at the same time.

I like the second one for S'thena. I like the second one for Iona, but with blue skin and human like ears.

Iona fatal, looks really sinister like Davy Jones from pirates of the Carribbean DMC. We could say Iona( fatal), just sticks her tentacles through the eyes and nostrils of the woman absorbs her memories and DNA. When she is finished, just breaks the neck. Once she has copied the form, takes her clothes.

It just provides a way of thinking.
Perhaps in the eyes of two kinds of aliens, earthlings are nothing.
Like in the eyes of American soldiers and Afghan terrorists, sheep are nothing.
The difference may only be the way of cooking sheep.

I mentioned octopus because I think it is a good source of inspiration.
Some octopuses change color to hide themselves, like chameleons.
Some octopuses are poisonous and can paralyze the enemy with tentacles.(poison version “Vulcan nerve pinch”)

They are all good sources, how about a fungus based lifeform. It overpowers the woman, with pheromones then sticks it's tendrils into her brain. Downloads DNA and memories, and the brain is shrivelled up. It arrives on planet earth on a meteor. Or escapes from a lab.
