Vengeance at Red Rock Pt 2:- The Maids Day Off

Quickly passing by to leave a comment on this saga in general (parts 1 and 2). Gotta say this story brings back good memories of 2020, when Desperados III was out. Almost makes me tempted to resurrect my own story inspired by this game that has been sitting unfinished for four years... (I really did like the antagonist I came up with.)

Love all the references/homage to Desperados III - like with the names. This story feels almost a bit nostalgic. I read the "Well, well. What do we have here?" with the voice (and accent) of the mooks of the game. I'm not quite sure it's a reference (cause it's a pretty common thing to say), but it reminded me so much of these henchmen's and henchwomen's stock phrases.

Weirdly enough, these two chapters remind me a bit of those Let's Plays of the game I used to watch, with players killing the bandits and sparing the civilians (which is actually in-theme with the older games which enforced the "no civilian death rule" in all levels).

Fittingly for a girl named Cooper, Nancy also uses a coin to distract people. An other reference I wager.

For many (obvious) reasons, I enjoyed the scene with Mary (rope-themed western-themed bondage + 19th century undergarments = win ). Plus, there was even a discovery scene. Love a good discovery scene from time to time. And gardener Frank's reaction was priceless. And so was Mary's indignant reaction to his reaction. The plot is serious (it's a revenge story after all, a favorite trope of yours; though I do smell some romance as well, so that makes two favorite tropes of yours ), but a few light-hearted moments from time to time don't hurt.

Indeed, there were many subtle nods to Desperados 3 a game myself i'am quite fond of myself for obvious reasons . Although with my playthough I generally eliminated the poor NPCs who Karte stole outfits from, largely because it's how I roll on games like that and to maintain stealth. And I wasn't kind to civilians either.

I actually gender swapped John and Katie's characters, with making Nancy the cowgirl and Clinton the escaping (sort of) bride. And this story was based off the "Till Death Do Us Part" level, complete with Nancy doing the coin toss. But with no bride.

Its going to be a recurring theme with the serial, that I based the story on levels from the game. Part 3 will be set in a gold mine, 4 in a casino and 5 will be in a brothel and the showdown. And will follow lethal for bandits and non lethal for civilians. Part 1 was more inspired by Red Dead Redemption and I would say that both Desperados and Red Dead were subtle inspirations for this series.

I'am glad you enjoyed the little bits of humour and romance, which there will be more to come. Actually, the romance will be departure from the usual since it will be a heterosexual romance. And the revenge? Well I'am a sucker for a little frontier justice, and besides the plot of Desperados 3 is a revenge one with Katie and John having their own bones to pick with the baddies.
