The Psychology of Uniform Stealing - A Survey

Post by Stormtrooper1990 »

Hi Everyone

As Arc and I have been coming up with many Cold War era stories (which I will post onto the board in good time.), we had a discussion about the psychology of our latest characters. What motivates them to utilise disguises? The methods they use(lethal or non-lethal)? What made them into the women they are? This is a subject that as fascinated me, since the moment I wrote my first SI stories.

We often discuss many things on the board. Everything from our preferred victim, to takedown methods to the state of the victim post stripping. But we haven't mentioned the chief component of the steal, the uniform stealer herself.

So I pose this question, as both a writer and a fan of the trope or genre of female/female uniform(and clothes) stealing:

Who is your favourite uniform/clothes stealer? Also, your favourite psychology?

1. A merciless Assassin?

2. A Terminator?

3. A desperate woman on the run? (Includes asylum escapees)

4. An Alien Shapeshifter? (Or general Alien?)

5. A roguish Happy go lucky heroine/ anti-heroine?

6. A complex tortured soul?

7. A suave superspy? (Or spy in general?)

8. A vampire? (Or other horror creature?)

9. A hardened soldier/mercenary?

10. A Fantasy setting? (Elves, mages etc)

These are the ones that come from the top of my head. Feel free to put something down, that I may have missed.

I look forward to hearing from you all.

Many thanks and kind regards to everyone. ;)

3 and 7 from the list.

Spy could also be mole...like a female working with a secret agenda in a division. Like on 24, the infiltration prone CTU building.

Desperate woman on the run maybe a deviation of a female career criminal, maybe not desperate but still trying to avoid being discovered.

Sorry, I'm on limited time, typing this on work break!

Unsuprisingly, my pick would be number 5 - a roguish Happy go lucky heroine/ anti-heroine. Though number 1 and number 9 (and a combination of both) can make for compelling antagonists.

For my favorite protagonists, I'd add the normal reasonably good-natured "everyday" girl who's roped into uniform stealing shenanigans - a heroic character, but not happy-go-lucky at all about the situation.

My picks would be numbers #2, #3, #5 and #7. :) simply for these reasons.

A. I've always fantasied about female terminators stealing women's clothing after traveling back in time (would love to see a remake of the famous terminator 2 scene but with females instead :D )

B. Can't go wrong with a spy or infiltrator, it's a classic and one of the pillars that our genre is built upon. Plus the idea of an infiltrator taking down a lone guard for her outfit whilst the guards colleagues have no idea what's going on behind them, is just to good. :)

C. It is what it is. A woman has broken out of prison, naturally she'd need a change of clothes to blend in and then we all know what happens next. ;)

I have to say it is spy or thief that is my favorite. The spy can be technically the "good guy" but still have to steal uniforms.
