SHADOW INITIATIVE OPERATIVES HANDBOOK
MK1 Sonic pulse grenades
Technical Specifications

Materials:- polycarbonate casing, Sonic pulse emitter
Clearance Level:- Operative and above.
Uses:- The incapacitating of 4 or more subjects, wearing gas
masks or respirators.
Users:- All SI branches
Fuse duration:- 3 second delay
Medical Considerations
Side effects:- Unconsciousnes lasting 8-12 hours,
Headaches, Tinnitus, Short term memory loss
The brain child of Carrie Reynolds, former SEB defector now SOG Group 6 logistics officer, the Sonic Grenade came about as a request by SOG Group 4 LO Hayley Turner. Her team was infiltrating a Darkwatch bioweapons lab near Krakow, when they encountered Darkwatch sentries wearing combat respirators. Unable to use their Morpheus Gas grenades, the team had to subdue the sentries hand to hand. The request was made for a grenade that could incapacitate a large group of enemy personnel wearing respirators. Using her knowledge of computing and Sonic based technology, Reynolds was able to come up with a proof of concept weapon, in spring 2023.
The weapon was trailed during Group 6's successful mission to prevent Darkwatch's attack on the G20, where it was used to great effect to stun a team of firefighters for their uniforms. Group 6 also used it in the successful abduction of Dr Evelyn Cross. The weapon as now been rolled out across all SI service branches, where it as been well recieved.
The Sonic pulse grenade sucks the surrounding air around into itself. Then in a nano second, releases it into a high energy stunning pulse that causes sensory overload of the CNS. It effectively resets the brain into sleep mode, causing unconsciousness for a period of 12 hours.
The Sonic pulse grenades, are currently in active service earning the nickname " Boomball" by Operatives and troopers alike.
( SI medical advisory. Junior Operatives are reminded that the "Boomball" is not a toy. The sick bay as recieved no less then 7 Operatives, who were using the Grenade as a cricket ball in the basement of SI London.)

The shock grenade is a great concept. Like your description of how the high energy plus causes sensory overload to the CNS and "resets the brain into sleep mode." The effect on the brain and nervous system of a woman hit with one of these is certainly powerful!

The concept came from the real life development of sonic based non-lethal weaponry for the US armed forces, mainly in defense against drones or a riot situation. Currently the research as been mothballed due a renewed interest in lethal technology, to counter Russia.
In the Shadowverse, the SI continued the research leading to Reynolds making a breakthrough in the creation of the first non-lethal antipersonnel explosive.

The sonic pulse grenade reminds me of the weapon Najica used on episode one. She is trapped by the group of the baddie's french maid guards and tosses a ball that seems to send out a shock that overwhelms their senses and knocked them all out.

I think out of all weaponry, we can imagine, the ones that don't kill really capture the imagination. It is the art of a true spy or infiltrator to complete her mission while showing grace and restraint.meditions142 wrote: Wed Mar 15, 2023 11:43 am The sonic pulse grenade reminds me of the weapon Najica used on episode one. Weapons like the SI arsenal and Najicas weapons epitomise this concept.

I was looking at this post again and was thinking about the point you make about the non-lethal weapons capturing the imagination. They do. For example, Najica's stun pistol is such a fun concept. The way Najica can shoot a sentry with it and immediately render her unconscious.Stormtrooper1990 wrote: Wed Mar 15, 2023 11:50 amI think out of all weaponry, we can imagine, the ones that don't kill really capture the imagination. And what I really enjoy about your stories involving SI's weapons is that you describe how the weapon actually works on the women it is used on. This little bit of detail somehow makes it so much more intriguing to me.

I like to put in as much attention to detail as possible, when it comes to designing then writing about the SI's Arsenal. In the case of the pulse grenades, they are semi based in reality, since the US Navy as been experimenting with sonic weaponry as a both a non lethal deterrent and a missile defence system, on scale weapond. However, they discounted the program, citing in was to expensive.
I was intrigued about how sound is used as a deterrent and how so the idea that it could be used as a weapon hit me. So the sonic pulse grenade was born. Another interesting fact, is our sense of hearing deteriorates with age. Younger people hear sounds at higher frequencies then older people, so younger targets will likely be incapacitated for longer. Which is why SI operatives target young women as disguise vectors.

That is an interesting thing about the sonic grenade. It has a more powerful effect on younger targets. Good thing the sentries are usually young women.Stormtrooper1990 wrote: Wed May 10, 2023 3:37 pm

I definitely like the way you describe how it works. As you say it "causes sensory overload of the CNS. It effectively resets the brain into sleep mode, causing unconsciousness for a period of 12 hours." Such a great idea. The woman has her brain and CNS so overloaded is it like she is shut down and falls into a deep and very long lasting sleep.

Thanks meditions, I really appreciate that. It truly is one of the most powerful and remarkable weapons in the SIs Arsenal.
And the best thing is, it also wipes the memory maintaining the SI's secrecy around it's weaponry and operations. All without killing anybody.
