Hong Kong Hustle
Such little time, So many uniforms.

The city of Hong Kong, known in Chinese as the ‘Fragrant Harbour is a sprawling metropolis and vibrant, exciting home to its six million lucky inhabitants. A wealthy city by any standards it has more millionaires per head of the population than anywhere else in the world, including Manhattan and Knightsbridge. This matter of fact should not be surprising as the economic growth of Hong Kong over the previous three decades has been astonishing, and has given the residents of this great city real pride in their city and new found wealth. Yet, by the standards of many, the local Hong Kong population are seen as brash, ambitious and money obsessed. No more is this envy felt than in mainland China, where the average wage is only a small fraction of that earned in the ‘Fragrant Harbour’ and where poverty is a part of daily life for hundreds of millions of its people. Of course, many wealthy mainland Chinese are rich enough to settle in Hong Kong, but there are many, many more who are not … and will do anything to enter the city, sometimes illegally. The following tale concerns a young mainland woman, who are years of poverty and misery has finally decided to make a new life for herself, no matter how, or at what cost to those who stand in her way…

4PM, Star Cruise Liner, Tsim Sha Tsui Ferry Terminal, Kowloon City

Twenty-two year old Wai Li looked out from over the upper railings on the cruise liner’s top deck and stared intensely at the hundreds of people milling around on the level below. Very shortly, this packed cruise ship, returning from a day’s trip from the Chinese mainland would be disembarking its passengers. Some would be looking forward to an evening’s worth of shopping at Port City, Hong Kong’s largest shopping mall, whereas others, would simply be returning home to their families. Yet, as a stowaway, Wai Li would not be one of them. For this slightly muscular orphan and former prostitute, sneaking onto the ship had been easy, but now how to get off? And it didn’t end there for Wai Lai either, as she barely had enough money to buy her next meal, let alone pay for somewhere to live while spending the next few weeks seeking work … invariably of an illegal kind. However, little did Wai Li know that a solution to her problems would soon be in her hands, quite literally in her hands.

Meeting point, Lower Deck, Star Cruise Liner

It had been a bitter-sweet day for graduating finance student, Carmen Tsui as she tearfully raced up the outside steps to the next deck. Today was meant to be her big day. It was after all, her college’s graduation day trip. The nineteen year old Carmen had been looking forward to this for some time. As she was now at the end of three years of study and had now a qualified as a financial administrator. The day trip had started well. The course intake of more than three hundred uniformed young ladies had happily spent all day visiting the neighbouring Chinese city of Shenzhen. Many photographs were taken and the girls had so much fun together visiting all the local attractions. Carmen, in particular, took many pictures and delighted in sampling the delicious local cuisine, which she had never tried before. Yet, all was not well. Like most groups of nineteen to twenty year old girls, old rivalries and personal grudges eventually came to bear. An argument eventually ensued that left the sensitive young woman visibly upset and shaken.

Feeling ashamed by her flowing tears as they trickled down her soft cheeks, Carmen fled far away from her tormentors to part of the ship where she thought she could be alone. Although, she did not know it yet, this one act of rashness and youthful innocence would prove to be the costliest mistake of her young life so far. Now without thought for the consequences, the nineteen year old student began making her journey upwards to the next deck, a part of the ship that she believed would give her some privacy.

Now, upon seeing the young uniformed Carmen heading towards her, Wai Li couldn’t believe her luck. Quickly, she darted back into the empty storage room that she had been hiding in. Opening her rucksack, she emptied the contents onto the table nearest the door and began selecting what she needed. Wai Li didn’t have much to show for her life so far. The only items she had elected to bring with her on her big adventure were a credit card encryption breaker, some rope, chloroform (that she had stolen from a local chemist) and a syringe packed full of morphine, taken from a local hospital that she had robbed the previous week. But Wai Li didn’t have any time to spare reminiscing about her recent exploits as she decisively picked up and opened the chloroform bottle to soak both sides of her cloth handkerchief ready for use. Now she was ready to make her move, all she needed to do was wait until the sobbing teenaged student worked past the storage room and then …

Carmen Tsui continued to walk and sob in the general direction of her would be attacker. In truth, she had a reputation for being emotional and this was not the first time she had walked off, but at nineteen, so knew very well that her lecturers and classmates were starting to tire of her volatile behaviour. Nevertheless, she was determined to make a scene and storming off from her friends was an appealing option to her, even if this would always be a little self-defeating.

Still deep in thought and self-pity, Carmen had no way of knowing what was happening to her as suddenly she felt a chloroformed rag cover her face. She tried to fight back, but found one of her arms painfully locked back as she was pulled somewhat indignantly into Wai Li’s lair. Seconds later it was all over, at least for Carmen. Now, Wai Li lay her victim out on the floor and spread her out into an almost star shape. Looking down at her victim and newly acquired clothes rack, Wai Li couldn’t help but smirk at how easy it had all been.

‘Sorry little miss, but there was no other way. I know you’re innocent and I mean you no harm, but I need your ID and college uniform to get out of this hell hole’.

Now Wai Li knelt down and began gently pulling off Carmen black, sensible uniform shoes. They came off with no trouble as Carmen, like most students preferred to wear her shoes loosely fastened. Next, Wai Li scurried up to the top half of Carmen’s body and began unbuttoning the white uniform college dress that Carmen was wearing. Button after button was popped open as the light cotton material was opened up from the top of her chest to the bottom of her waistline. Now, gently, yet firmly, Wai Li yanked off the uniform dress and disrobed item on a nearby table. Looking down, there was still so much to do. Lifting up Carmen’s still feet, Wai Li gingerly pulled off the short, thin and white uniform socks that contained her victim’s beautiful sleeping feet. Wai Li was a tough, independent girl, so stripping a woman for her uniform was no problem, yet she was still squeamish at some things, in particular other girls’ feet. She always considered this part of the body, sacred, and too personal, not to mention unpleasant. Wai Li also needed to make sure that the young woman lying in front of her didn’t have any spreadable foot diseases, so carefully she held up Carmen’s feet, one by one and checked for cleanliness and disease. Sure enough, Carmen’s feet were free from blemishes. Indeed, they were still quite fresh, feeling soft and a little moist around the toes. However, apart from a faint salty aroma, there was no reason for Wai Li to feel worried about dressing in her victims and shoes and socks.

With this worry, freed from her mind, Wai Li looked up and eyed the full slip Carmen was wearing for underwear. Given the thin, white outer uniform, this would need removing too as without it, her underwear would be revealed. So, Wai Li did, without hesitation, Wai Li took a firm grip of both cotton shoulder straps and eased the light grey garment down and off its owner, revealing a pink coloured padded bra and a small sized set of jet black knickers that Carmen had freshly put on that morning.

Happy with herself, yet feeling a little sorry for her hopelessly out matched victim, Wai Li hurriedly dressed herself in the college student’s uniform and combed her hair down in the style of the teenager she was replacing. A few moments later though, she was bending back down again to tie and gag the still unconscious Carmen Tsui. It took only a few seconds as the young woman’s warm body was limp and therefore easy to manipulate. The discarded cord she had found tightly bound and hogtied the victim. Even, if awoken, she would stand little chance of breaking free from her binds.

Standing up, Wai Li, dusted off her newly acquired uniform and dipped her hand into her brand new uniform dress pocket. Sure enough, there was Carmen’s HK ID card. Getting past immigration would now be easy as large school/college parties like Carmen’s were never checked all that thoroughly. Turning to say thank you to the motionless Carmen, Wai Li, she now felt nothing but pity for her young victim. Kneeling down to pushing her face close to Carmen’s moist black knickers, Wai Li opened her mouth once more.

‘As I said, sorry about this, but it’s the only way Hun. Here’s some cash to buy some new shoes and maybe a cup of coffee when you wake up for your little nap’.

As she spoke, Carmen stirred slightly as Wai Li pushed a five hundred dollar note inside her knickers.

‘At least, she’ll be able to afford a taxi ride home, even if she doesn’t want the shoes’ Wai Li joked to herself.

But now, Wai Li had other things on her mind. How to complete the adventure and get off the ship and through immigration without problems?

Chapter Two

Walking confidently down to the departure deck, the sound of the ferry’s horn seemed not only to signal the looming en-mass disembarkation process but somehow to confirm to Wai Li the new sense of triumphalism and conquest that she now felt.
So, smugly as all 1,200 of the passengers began disembarking through Immigration, Wai Li joined the back of the three hundred strong college party that Carmen had been a part of. Like all the others she simply held up her ID card to the bored and disinterested immigration officers who waved the mostly giggling nineteen to twenty year old college students through into the arrivals all. Now Wai Li had crossed over into Hong Kong territory and she was standing directly in the middle of one of Asia’s largest shopping malls. Yet, she had hardly any cash, no change of clothes and hadn’t eaten at all since the previous evening.

Feeling her stomach, she knew her priority must be food and as she glanced around she couldn’t help but notice a massive four hundred –seat, Pizza Host restaurant. For Wai Li, to eat a pizza would be a luxury, something she could never afford in mainland China. Now she had an opportunity to live as well as those who lived in the city she had now infiltrated. Casually, she entered the restaurant, sat down near to the establishment’s toilets and gave her food order to one of the young waitresses who happened to be nearby.

Wai Li ate hungrily, much like an animal. She hadn’t been able to learn the customs and norms of polite table manners, after all, she had come from the distant countryside and this was her first visit to an air conditioned fast food chain. But after much burping and the occasional silent fart, Wai Li began to think again about her situation.

‘I need money, ID and somewhere to stay.’ She muttered out loud.

The latter could only come after she had acquired the former she realised. Wai Li then remembered the credit card decoder that she had in her bag and as she did, she couldn’t help but notice the amount credit cards that were being used to settle the bills. Now, she had an idea. What had worked less than an hour ago on the ferry ship, might just work here.

‘Fortune favours the brave’

mumbled the pretty little thief as she got up and walked casually into the female toilets situated next to her table.

Entering the clean, modern facility, Wai Li darted straight into the nearest toilet cubicle. Fortunately, the room wasn’t busy and this relative calm allowed Wai Li the time to clear her thoughts for the task ahead. A few minutes later, a knock on the main toilet room door was followed by the shape of a young waitress holding a clipboard. It was clearly her job to check the cleanliness of the facility.

Indeed, checking the toilets had been the job of Charlene Ho for more five out of her seven years at Pizza Host. A pleasant girl, who spoke only limited English, she was perhaps the oldest, at twenty-five of all the waitresses and yet she was quite happy to continue life waiting on tables as she enjoyed the hard work and social aspect of meeting new people and blowing kisses at babies.
Perhaps Charlene would have changed her mind if she had been able to predict the lunging right cross to her left cheek that not only knocked her off balance, but onto the floor, where she drifted off into a rapid state of unconsciousness.

Wai Li wasted no time. Although the restroom was particularly busy, she needed to be careful as she dragged the limp, knocked out waitress into the disabled toilet cubicle. Wai Li had selected that one for a reason – more space and less likely to get customers checking the door. Now inside the cubicle, Wai Li surveyed the space. There was plenty of room and even better the door came fully down to the floor, so as long as she was quiet, she should be able to strip this young woman without too many difficulties.

Placing Charlene on the floor, Wai Li noticed immediately how badly she had punched the young woman. A huge blue-like swelling had sprung up around the waitresses’ cheek bone. Wai Li gently pressed her sweating hand against it. It didn’t feel broken, but Wai Li began feeling guilty about her actions. Her victim had not deserved this, she was just an innocent pawn and (looking down at her uniform) had probably been so for all of her life.

Wai Li looked down again at the uniform. It was identical to the uniform of another well-known chain of pizza restaurants. At once Wai Li knelt down and gently prized off the waitresses’ black, slip on shoes. Quite big, she thought as she peered inside them to confirm the shoe size. Now she looked upwards and unfastened the orange apron. The waitresses’ uniform was a complicated one, Wai Li thought to herself as she crawled further up to the waitresses’ upper body. Then, silently, she unbuttoned the young woman’s orange coloured sleeve buttons before quickly and firmly doing the same to her brown coloured uniform working dress. With one form yank, the large, cumbersome, oversized body apron was off. Yet Charlene Ho was still not yet properly stripped to her underwear. Underneath her uniform was a very necessary white t-shirt with the Pizza Host logo sewn on it. Wai Li, not taking any chances, pulled this somewhat body scented garment off too. After all, a uniform was a uniform. Now Wai Li looked back down at the black uniform trousers and very quickly unfastened the belt and unzipped the front zipper, pulling down as she did the trousers off the helpless, sleeping waitresses’ legs and feet. With virtually the entire uniform maze off Charlene Ho’s body, Wai Li now came to the part she hated the most … the feet. Luckily, the waitress was not wearing tights, instead she still had on a pair of black ankle socks that seemed to hug her toes and foot arches perfectly. Holding her nose with one hand, Wai Li gently peeled off the black socks to reveal the waitresses’ tired, reddish feet. As ever, Wai Li hated feet, yet she had no choice but to change socks as she had noticed all the waitresses maintained a strict uniform code and who had ever seen a Pizza Host waitress in white college socks? With that in mind, Wai Li tried to reassure herself as best she could, but the contrast between the her previous victim, the college girl and this waitress was all to evident. Quite simply, Charlene’ feet were in a terrible state from her twelve hours waiting on tables, smelling quite strongly, they were blistered and even bleeding under one of her little toe nails. Likewise, as Wai Li looked up, she noticed in horror a couple of fresh looking burn marks on the waitresses’ arms. Wai Li prayed that she would not catch anything infectious from this young girl. The girl was obviously hard working as her exhausted physical state showed, yet hygiene and personal grooming were not her priority.

‘Not really her fault, poor thing’

Wai Li whispered to herself as she redressed in the slightly baggy waitresses’ uniform.

Turning around, in the now newly acquired uniform, Wai Li opened her bag of ‘tricks’. Out came the syringe and moments later the sleeping waitresses’ red coloured knickers were pulled down facilitate a sharp, single jab of a morphine that would render the young woman immobile for the next hour or so. This was fine as Wai Li had run out of rope and gags.

Happy that all had gone well, Wai Li still felt guilty at the violence that she had subjected Charlene to. The waitress hadn’t deserved what had happened to her and Wai Li knew it. She couldn’t ‘turn back the clock’ but at least she could keep the woman’s humiliation to a minimum. Shaking her head in shame, the confident young woman picked up the discarded college uniform and redressed the waitress accordingly. Seconds later, Pizza Host waitress, Charlene Ho was placed on the toilet seat with her side facing the cubicle wall. Her black eye was clearly visible and would probably be there for a few days, yet, the young Charlene probably now looked more ridiculous than ever. After all, here was a tired looking twenty five year old woman dressed in the uniform of a nineteen year old college student and to make matters worse she was lying unconscious on a toilet seat in just her sore bare feet. Wai Li couldn’t help but sigh, wondering as she did, whether this young woman would quite be the same again.

But now Wai Li had more important things to worry about. As ever, she had a plan. The muscular young woman locked the cubicle door from inside and deftly climbed over the divider into the main toilets’ area. There was nobody around and that would do nicely as she checked the watch she had taken from the waitress.

‘That took only seven minutes. Not bad, but I need to move quickly’ She thought to herself.

Wai Li now straightened her hair back in the mirror and switched back on the waitresses’ staff radio and plugged in the earpiece. Now she was ready to steal some credit cards.

Walking out into the main restaurant area, it was almost as if she didn’t exist. Nobody noticed anything odd as the place was crowded with dozens of busy staff members running around. Wai Li used her brain. She quickly responded to a number customers who were holding their hands and credit cards up wanting to pay their bills. She acted politely and professionally, ‘escorting’ credit cards back to the cashier’s desk. Yet as she arrived at the cashier’s desk she couldn’t help but notice the large silver tray positioned near the till … a tray containing a dozen or so credit cards with their receipts. With the two cashiers distracted on the phone and the restaurant Greeter trying to communicate to a large party of Japanese tourists, Wai Li made her move and scooped up the cards and hurriedly marched out of the restaurant to the safety of the crowds.

In the space of one hour, she had stripped two women, stole a fortune worth of credit cards, but she was still no nearer to being able to leave the shopping mall. To do this she would need clothes and money, not a humble waitresses’ uniform. At that thought, she looked up at the green and black signage of a familiar department store ‘Marks and Expensive’ she grinned.

‘Well, expensive for some!”

Chapter Three

Wai Li walked around the medium-sized department store excitedly like a kid in a candy shop. She saw so many fantastic dresses and gowns and all for the very first time in her previously dull existence. Now, within minutes this ‘rags to riches’ thief scooped up a whole basket full of clothing items and walked confidently to the ladies’ fitting room at the back of the store. But what Wai Li had forgotten was that she was still wearing the uniform of a humble Pizza Host waitress. Clearly, a shopping basket full of items many times greater in value than her supposed monthly salary raised a few heads, not least with the two sale assistants manning the fitting room.

Both young women looked at the passing Wai Li with considerable scorn and puzzlement:

‘And just how could a waitress make enough money to even contemplate buying that lot’ whispered the elder of the two.

But Wai Li neither heard nor cared as she cheerfully began occupying the changing room nearest to the reception desk. Up to now, everything had gone so well for the young thief and as she started trying on the various clothing outfits, she couldn’t help but wonder if things were about to take a turn for the worse, after all, she was due some bad luck.

The younger of the two sales assistants manning the fitting room was Chloe Chan. At twenty, Chloe was the same age as Wai Li, but this was where any similarities ended. Chloe, unlike Wai Li was not an ambitious girl. She was simple, friendly and yes, not terribly bright. She lived for the now and spent most of her life, not to mention her wages on dating and dressing up for her boyfriends. She was above all else, a pretty girl who delighted in painting her nails and texting her friends, the latter of which she was doing right now. Chloe wasn’t a big girl in fact she was slim and quite short. Nevertheless, she wore the Marks and Expensive uniform quite smartly. The only odd thing about her attire was her black uniform court shoes, which were two sizes too big for her. But Chloe liked to wear big shoes for a reason: she could easily dip her pantyhose clad feet in and out of them as she stood there behind the counter. This, Chloe found, was very soothing for her tired, moist feet and the only thing that made her long shifts bearable. Dipping up and down was exactly what Chloe was doing when her older, more experienced colleague announced that she was now taking tea break. Chloe didn’t mind, it wasn’t busy and with the other girl gone, she was now free to play on her Galaxy Android phone, or at least this was what she thought…

Back in the changing booth, Wai Li had started to become very emotional, trying on all the sizes. Never in her short life had she dreamt of being able to ‘buy’ such items, now they were all firmly in her grasp as she had her choice of more than a dozen decoded credit cards to begin using. But as she carried on, a loud crackle came out of her stolen Pizza Host staff radio:

‘Mall security to all stakeholders, Pizza Host waitress found unconscious and stripped of uniform. Several credit cards believed to be stolen. Suspect was last seen in Pizza Host uniform and moving eastbound on ground floor. CCTV images to follow on communal monitors, harbour police en-route. Broadcast over.’

Wai Li gulped. That message had been on ‘talk through’ so every shop assistant in the shopping mall would now be looking for her too. Looking down at the clothes she wanted to buy with the stolen credit cards, Wai Li realised that they all contained electronic tags that would be set off should she try to seek out in them. Clearly this idea wouldn’t work and to continue wearing the Pizza Host uniform would just be too risky.

Now, peeping out of the changing cubicle, see spied the young shop assistant with her back to her. Still unaware of the gathering storm, Chloe was not even listening to her staff radio as she was too concerned with playing the latest addition of angry birds on her phone. This would be easy, thought Wai Li, but she would need to move very quickly.

Now, reaching into her trouser pocket, Wai Li felt the outline of her chloroform soaked handkerchief. There was still just enough of the chemical to work, but probably not much more. At this, Wai Li tiptoed silently out of her cubicle and grabbed the helpless, surprised shop assistant from the back, filling her tiny face all over with a filthy chloroform scented rag and pulling her silently into the small sized ‘returns’ room at the back of the fitting area. Less than a minute later, young Chloe Chan was sleeping with the fairies. She had been no trouble at all as her tiny, slim frame succumbed easily and without resistance to the powerfully built Chinese mainlander. Indeed, during the struggle, both of Chloe’s shoes had fallen off her feet and onto the floor, so unwittingly Chloe was already helping Wai Li strip her as fast as she possibly could.

Now with Chloe on the cold concrete floor of the ‘returns’ room Wai Li took quick stock of the situation. There was no time to lose as any minute now the store would be searched. So bending down, Wai Li quickly unbuttoned and pulled off Chloe’s black uniform shirt. Trying it on, it was a little tight and unfortunately, Chloe was obviously fond of the odd cigarette as the garment stank of smoke and failing, cheap perfume. Once she finished buttoning up her new top, Wai Li turned her attention to the black uniform trousers. Chloe, wore no belt, so the unzipping took less than a second as the slightly creased pants slid off the young shop assistant’s nylon clad legs. Now, the part Wai Li hated: the tights. But this time, Wai Li decided against removing them as it would take too much time and as they were flesh colour, there value as part of a disguise was probably going to be limited anyway. Shaking her head, Wai Li simply got on with the job to hand as she climbed into the uniform trousers and slide into the attractive, yet over-sized uniform court shoes.

Now Wai Li had finished her first ever impromptu stripping in record time. Yet, there was also a sense of foreboding failure that began to capture Wai Li’s mood. In her mind, stealing the college student’s uniform was necessary and taking the waitresses’ clothes was a great idea, but now this? This was unplanned, sloppy and unprofessional. Furthermore, three victims, one hour and three borrowed uniforms later, Wai Li was still no closer to exiting the Arrivals Hall of the shopping mall/ferry terminal. Nothing it seemed was going right for Wai Li.

‘So near, yet so far’ She hissed as she blew a kiss in the direction of the unconscious Ms Chan.

But Now, Wai Li needed to think fast!

How could she escape from one of the busiest, best protected terminals in the world?

Chapter Four (part A)

Wai Li took hold of the situation, sure she felt vulnerable right now. Yet, so far her tactics of disguise and deception had worked. Now all she needed to do was to exit the department store and then the terminal. Once out, she could relax and easily blend into the massing crowds on the streets outside. Now, the convicted thief, stowaway and former prostitute made her most brazen, daring move yet. Cleverly, she straightened down her newly acquired trousers and walked back onto the shop floor. Looking confident and with her head held high, she walked up directly to the delivery desk and began bluffing the counter girl who was co-ordinating the deliveries.

‘Hi, yes that’s it’ as she looked down to read off the address labels.

‘It’s Mrs Robinson, you know, the foreign lady? She being complaining all week about her deliveries being late and you know what? Yesterday, she called Head Office about the customer service here!

The counter girl gulped as she continued to listen.

Wai Li continued:

‘Yeah, the deputy store manager has asked me to take it to her directly. Don’t worry, I know we’re on ‘lockdown’ but Mrs Robinson has come into the mall especially, so here I am!’

The counter girl didn’t argue as she passed over to Wai Li Mrs Robinson’s bag of toiletries.

‘Haven’t you forgot something’ reminded the counter girl’?

‘Sign here!’

Wai Li tried not to look too nervous or stupid as she signed her name as Chloe Chan – the unfortunate former owner of the uniform Wai Li was wearing. It was difficult for Wai Li as her English wasn’t very good, yet she still managed a simple:

‘C Chan’

With that Wai Li along with a large paper bag full of stolen toiletries walked back across the remainder of the shop floor and strode out into the main shopping mall walkway. Now, looking around Wai Li could see that all the main exits were manned with what seemed like dozens of police and security officers. Clearly it would be impossible to simply walk out onto the street to safety and it also wouldn’t take the other shop assistants long before they found their unconscious, uniformless colleague in the shop ‘Returns Room’. Wai Li acted quickly, scanning with her eyes the layout of the mall. Suddenly she saw two maintenance workers stroll out of a small, almost hidden ‘STAFF ONLY’ door. Now Wai Li took her chance as she confidently edged up to the door and turned the handle … she was in. After climbing down a short flight of metal stairs, Wai Li stopped to rub her eyes. Looking around Wai Li could see that she was now in the maintenance area of the complex. Looking at the workers’ wall map, she could make out several possible exits. The desperate thief chose the one furthest from the crowds and immediately began the short journey underground to the far side of the shopping mall. With luck, soon she would be free.

Walking quietly along the dimly lit corridors, it took Wai Li less than five minutes to ‘see and touch freedom’ However, just as she was about to turn the final corner, she heard a noise. Stopping in her tracks, Wai Li peered around the corner in front of her. Sure enough, there was the door to freedom, but standing in the way was a one of Hong Kong’s finest … a highly trained and well equipped policewoman who was the lone guard at was after all, an unlikely route of escape.

Wai Li sighed. Now she was angry, but she wasn’t about to let just one policewoman come between her and total victory. She felt inside her pocket, she had used everything, so she no longer had an easy way of subduing the young woman in front of her. Then, she had an idea, why not just use her fists? Sure, the policewoman was armed, but by the time she knew what was happening she’d be in easy range of Wai Li’s left hooks. This idea appealed to Wai Li, after all, she not only wanted to rob Hong Kong, but she also wanted to make a statement. What better than giving a policewoman a good beating and then steal her uniform? Thought Wai Li and almost kinky too, she conceded to herself. Yet, looking back into the bag of stolen toiletries, Wai Li still had one weapon that was sure to tip the balance in her favour. With a smile on her face, she continued her journey around the corner to the policewoman.

‘This is my city, now’ Thought the evil little mainland witch!

Pretty policewoman Flora Au was as a matter of fact never going to be a match for the powerful and aggressive Wai Li. The twenty-seven year old had been a policewoman since completing her basic training some five years’ earlier. There she met her husband-to-be, who was also a police officer under training. They fell in love and were duly married when Flora was still at the tender age of twenty-three. Sadly for Flora, it was to be no fairy tale. Soon her over-bearing husband would turn aggressive and began a series of very public affairs, all of which humiliated the devoted Flora and made her a complete emotional wreck. Yet like many women in her situation, Flora simply blamed herself and got herself pregnant by her drunken husband in order to bring them emotionally closer. It didn’t work, as soon as the baby was born, Flora’s husband continued to chase other women and so now, Flora was not only stuck in a sexless, loveless marriage but now also needed to pay a full-time child minder. It was her child minder that Flora had just finished speaking to. The hunt for Wai Li had meant that the harbour police had all had their duty rosters extended and for Flora, this meant she would be late home by three more hours. Flora hated overtime, as not only did she needed to pay more money to her helper, but also she was missing out on the only good thing in her life, her baby daughter. Now, her face, bright red with emotion, looked up to see the rapidly nearing figure of what appeared to a Marks and Expensive shop assistant.

________________________________________

Chapter Four (part B)

‘Hi, you must be the policewoman then? Listen, our shop has been asked to provide refreshments for all of the police and security staff working late tonight’.

Flora felt confused, but things were happening so quickly. Just then, Wai Li opened the Marks and Expensive bag that contained the toiletries.

‘Let see now, is something sharp and spicy ok?’

Poor Flora didn’t have time to reply as Wai Li held up a can of spray deodorant and sprayed the contents into the young policewoman’s face and eyes. Flora screamed as she covered her face. Wai Li lost no time as forcefully pulled Flora’s gun from out of its holster. But it was it wasn’t over as the policewoman continued to struggle to break free from Wai Li’s tightening grip. Now the thief remembered her promise to beat the policewoman up, but as she was about to begin pistol whipping the young woman’s head, Flora’s purse crashed out of her pocket and onto the floor. Looking down, Wai Li could see a beautiful, R3 sized photograph with Flora, holding and kissing her baby daughter. Now Wai Li started to think about her own life, how she had been abandoned by her prostitute mother and the love she had always sought while growing up.

‘Please, please, don’t hurt me. I have a baby, just don’t hurt me!’

Wai Li obliged as she loosened her grip on the surrendered policewoman.

‘Ok, I’ll stop hurting you, but don’t try anything stupid. Remember, if anything happens to you, I still have your address and I know what your family looks like’.

Wai Li had such grave menace in her voice it caused Flora to cry out loud in fear. All Flora could think about was why, why, why? Was it because she was a lousy cop, a terrible mother, a disappointing daughter or was this just some kind of punishment for being unable to satisfy the needs of her husband? Flora didn’t have time to wonder as Wai Li stuck her own police issue revolver under her chin.

‘Now do as you’re told, nothing less, nothing more’

‘Nod if you understand’.

Flora obeyed as she was pushed outside the secluded exit doors and onto the MTR (city trains) storage yard that bordered the shopping mall estate.

It was now pitch black outside and furthermore because the doors could only be opened from the inside there were no more pesky CCTV cameras to be weary of. Now, Wai Li continued to push and jab her petrified prisoner forwards until finally they came to an abandoned MTR carriage car.

‘Get in. Shut up and go to the far end of the carriage, the part without any windows’ Wai Li ordered.

‘Right WPC Au, today is your lucky, lucky day. I was going to make mincemeat out of you, but you look so cute in your family snaps it would be wrong to ruin them.’

‘Now, I’m not much for ceremony or big speeches, so listen up. Start stripping, take off your uniform, I need it'.

The petrified Flora, unarmed and alone began to comply. First she zipped off the dark blue jacket, then, off came the police hat, followed by the faint sound of the tie being unclipped and removed. With that, Flora took a deep breath and unbuttoned the light blue shirt until it came off too. Bending down as instructed, Flora now unlaced and pulled off her heavy black policewomen’s shoes. Standing up straight, she then loosened her utility belt, undid her fly and unzipped her trousers until they were off her tired legs and feet. WPC Flora Au now stood up straight in her underwear – a black coloured sports bra, peach coloured knickers and black, uniform socks.

‘Thanks babe. You look beautiful by the way, but your panties are (forgive me) a little old-fashioned though. Haven’t you been getting much attention recently?’.

Flora didn’t respond as she allowed Wai Li to handcuff her to the back of the carriage.

‘Oh and munch on this hun’

At this Wai Li ripped off one of her Marks and Expensive uniform shirt sleeves and gagged the young policewoman as tightly as she could.

It took the mainland thief less than two minutes to redress in Flora’s uniform. Just in time as Wai Li could hear from Flora’s radio that Chloe Chan (the shop assistant) had been found, therefore another change of uniform had been very necessary.

Bidding the bound and gagged policewoman goodbye, Wai Li straightened herself up and quickly walked out of the carriage and then onto the disserted train depot, where she nodded at some workers before exiting into Hong Kong itself.

She had fought and won her right to freedom and a better life, nobody could dispute that.

But what about the misery she had left behind?

What would become of her victims?
