The Sevastopol Hotel security team's investigation into the strange case of the apparently motiveless assault on a waitress, Miss Marina Svistunova, on June 15th, 2022, revealed little. The girl herself was released from the storeroom located by the fire escape on the third floor in the early hours of the morning on the 16th, and was found to be a little shaken, but none the worse for her experience. The young woman who had committed the assault, meanwhile, was found to have been travelling on a Belarusian passport, in the name of Katerina Okhansky. Further investigation revealed that the woman had unexpectedly checked out of the hotel at 4am, and had travelled directly to Simferopol airport, from where she had taken an early morning flight to Cairo.

Questioning of the hotel staff revealed that the woman calling herself Katerina Okhansky had assumed the identity of Marina Svistunova after rendering her unconscious and depositing her in the storeroom, and had then donned her uniform, and made her way to the banqueting suite, where she had presented herself as a room service waitress detailed to assist the team serving at the dinner for senior DNR and LNR representatives, taking place on these premises. The staff later reported that the woman had conducted herself in a friendly and professional manner, and seemed to be an experienced waitress. They had suspected nothing untoward.

Two weeks after the incident, General Denis Alexandrov, military intelligence chief of the DNR, was taken to hospital suffering from severe stomach pains. His condition worsened during the night and Alexandrov was pronounced dead of a mystery ailment in the early hours of the morning. Alexandrov had attended the dinner at the Sevastopol Hotel on the night of the 15th. This point was noted by the officials conducting the inquest into his death, but in the circumstances, no further action was possible, and hence no further action was taken.
